How To Dress On Your First Day At A New Job

In many ways, the first day of a new job is similar to the first day of school. It’s exciting and fun, but it can also be scary and overwhelming. No matter how you slice it, people are judging you, and it only takes a few seconds to make an impression. To get started on the right foot, you need to look confident and comfortable, and your clothes play a key role, sending an instant message about who you are.

Panicking yet? Don’t worry! I’m going to share some tips to help make that first day a fashion success!

Here are my suggestions on what to wear on the first day of a new job.

Do your research; The job interview is your chance to get to know your future employer, but it’s also a good opportunity to see what people in the workplace are wearing. Is it a t-shirt and jeans crowd? Are you working with fashionistas? Try to glean as much as you can, and don’t be shy to ask your hiring manager. When in doubt, it’s best to be a little overdressed, so leave behind the jeans and tee! You can always adjust your wardrobe as needed if it ends up being a more casual environment. Even if you’re overdressed, the idea is to look understated and professional –you want to be remembered for your work and skills, not that you wore a crazy outfit!

Research on your company’s policy to know how you can dress appropriately.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in; There is nothing better than wearing what makes you feel at ease with your surroundings. The same can be said for the first day at work. We all admit that the first day at work is something that we always hold close to our heart. And the easiest and best way to make the most of the day is to be comfortably presentable. There is no need to make things hard for yourself if you are not even able to move or act freely. Make sure you wear something that complements your figure and is neither too tight nor too loose.

Outfits are total mood changes. Wear something that you would feel comfortable in, enough to be productive

Ensure that your hair is equally neat and tidy; Most companies are rather strict about the manner in which they want their employees to look. Even when it comes to their hair, most often they prefer the men to have short and well-maintained hair and when it comes to women they usually like women to tie their hair in a bun or ponytail. If you are unsure of the way, you ought to style your hair, just ensure that it looks neat and none of it is coming in your eyes. If your hair looks dirty and badly maintained that is most certainly going to send across a very bad message not only to your seniors but also to your colleagues.

When your hair is neatly placed. It helps you look more professional

Do not wear loud and garish accessories; Work is definitely not the place to be wearing gaudy accessories to. Do not give anybody a chance to turn you to a topic for gossip. Your fellow employees do not take you seriously and may make fun of you. Work is where you would be spending most of your time of the day till you retire so choose your accessories for the first day very carefully. If you are a man, then do not wear any earring, a simple watch will do just fine. Women, on the other hand, can choose to wear a tasteful necklace alone with earrings if they feel it complements their outfit.

Wear this to the met gala or your child’s wedding, not on your first day at a Job

Carry a fashionable yet functional bag; As much as anything else, a fashionable yet functional bag will say a lot about you on your first day at work. The kind of bag that you carry will define, the kind of attitude you have towards work. A fashionable bag that is just as functional will definitely bring out the best in you. It will not only prompt at how sophisticated you are but also that you are more than capable of handling work efficiently. When it comes to choosing the perfect bag, there are plenty of options available in shops as well as in shopping malls. Having a bag with multiple compartments and pockets is what is absolutely ideal.

A bag that can take everything you’ll need.

Do not wear provocative clothes; Avoid wearing clothes that will attract negative attention at all costs. You do not want to give a wrong impression on your day at work. Wear something that will show how bold your attitude is without revealing too much. There is no need for skin show at work so make sure you are wearing something that puts you in a respectable place among your colleagues. You would most certainly not want to be known as that person who shows a lot of skin and is lacking in decency and decorum.

While this outfit would be fantastic for a casual outing. You don’t want to wear anything provocative on your first day at a new job

And that is it! You’ve got this! Shine on and all the best in your new adventure

Until next time, stay fancy!
